Activities for Residents of the Border Areas near Gaza and Lebanon | As a result of the October 7th terror attack, about 90,000 residents of the Gaza Envelope and the North of Israel have been evacuated from their homes to hotels and evacuation centers.
Within three weeks of the evacuation, the Jaffa Institute put its array of mobile learning laboratories to work providing recreational science activities to the evacuated children.
The STEM Mobiles, with their staff of instructors, came to the hotels and evacuation centers and gave the children a brief respite from their difficult circumstances, all while providing them with scientific knowledge in an experiential fashion.

Summer 2024 | When summer arrived, the schools to which the evacuee children had been redirected closed for a two-month summer break.
Some of the children attend summer day camps organized by local authorities, while others were left without an educational framework. Other children returned home to the border area with their families as some communities were determined to be safe to reopen.
To address the educational needs of these children, the Jaffa Institute deployed its STEM Mobiles. Two were stationed in southern kibbutzim (Bror Hayil and Ruhama) to provide regular programs for the children and workshops for local teachers to equip them with the skills to conduct their own science experiments
This initiative offered the children in these southern kibbutzim continuous hands-on experience with cutting-edge STEM technologies, including 3D printers and laser cutters.
The Jaffa Institute has dispatched its mobile labs to additional communities near the Gaza border (In the Gaza Envelope) as well as to communities near the northern border, providing enjoyable science activities in a wide array of subjects scheduled in advance in cooperation with the education and culture coordinators of the communities.

Marathon Science Days |
The Jaffa Institute organizes large-scale mobile lab events reaching dozens to hundreds of participants at a time. Our five STEM Mobiles are deployed to various communities for science learning marathons. Each child enjoys a variety of hands-on science experiments within the mobile units.
The communities covered by the project include Karmia, Gvar’am, Yad Mordechai, Mavki’im, Ruhama, Bror Hayil, Ma’alot-Tarshiha, Shlomi, Mateh Asher Regional Council, Ma’ale Yosef Regional Council, and others.
More than one thousand children, teenagers, and adults participated in these activities! |
